Headache

The vast majority of headaches are caused by muscle tension in the neck.

This may seem like a strange statement, because when you’ve got a headache, all your focus is on your head. However, the fact is that the neck muscles have a lot of “trigger points” that refer pain into the head. When these muscles are congested, their trigger points are often activated. By releasing the tension in the muscles, their trigger points are de-activated, and so the pain disappears.

It is also worth noting that headaches can come and go because your muscle tension varies from day to day. This is because the tension may be near the threshold where it can tip over into a headache. By using various Remedial Massage techniques I can help you to improve the condition of the muscles in your neck and so keep headaches from developing.

Furthermore, the ultimate cause of the tension in your neck muscles may well be due to your posture. In this case, I can also help you to find a long term solution. This is by doing a postural analysis and recommending exercises that will help to remove this root cause. These exercises are simple.

Of course, there are occasions when there is a more serious cause of the headache, such as if you’ve had a brain injury, or your blood pressure is very high. If there is any doubt about whether or not your headaches are due to muscle tension, you really must see a doctor.
